It should be all about pink socks

It's such a rainy day today, great weather for some handknitted warm socks. We're in December now, unbelievable how fast time can go. I do love the summer and being outside and although you can wear your knitwear and handmade winter clothes this time of the year, I don't like it when the daylight turns so fast into darkness again. But December is a special month with christmaslights everywhere to give us some extra light in winter. I started knitting these socks on my way back from Denmark last summer and then they where in there bag, unfinished for a long time, but last week I knitted the last bit and they are finished now! I dyed the yarn myself and I'm very happy with the result.

And if you would like to see more knitwork, crochet or sewing I'm working on, I've started a small Youtube channel (see link in the right sidebar). I felt a little bit uncomfortable talking to my screen but it seemed fun to me to get out of the blog comfortzone and start a little podcast. I will upload once in a couple of weeks a new video, so I hope you'll like it.

Have a happy week, talk to you soon,

The late summerdress

And another week flew by.
We've had the first frost! Yesterday when I was cycling in the morning I saw the crisp white frost. That means that the Dahlia's soon will turn brown and black and I will dig the tubes out of the garden and let them dry inside. It's always sad when they're finished. It really puts an end on some late summer flowers and autumn turns slowly more in winter. But it's okay, we've had a great and warm summer and it's a beautiful rarely dry autumn so I'm not complaining!
And colder weather has it's own beauty and we make it inside cosy with cactus candlelights.

I still didn't show the summer dress I finished in autumn. It was actually too late to wearing the dress (to cold) but it was also too hot in the summer for a double layered jersey dress to even think about finishing it. But it's okay, I love it and next year I will wear it. I love the fabric it's from the Dutch fabric brand Stenzo and the pattern was from an older Knipmode magazine. I adjusted it a bit and made the dress a lot shorter than the original pattern. Next year watermelon dress year!
Well I will soon be back and for now I wish you all a lovely Sunday evening and a lovely new week. I hope to finish my short row heel in a Arne & Carlos sock, it's so much fun knitting, I will show you soon!

The last summer flowers

We've had such lovely autumn weather a week ago. Temperatures were like summer. And so the garden produced flowers that otherwise wouldn't be here anymore this time of the year.

I've done some knitting over the last couple of weeks. I will post some photos this week. But no finished objects. A toe to knit and a thumb in a mitten, some sleeves and a ribbed hem. All kind of small (or big) finishing jobs to do. But there's no hurry. When I have some time I will finish them.

O and I lost one of my knitted scarfs when I took the bus. I think it dropped on the floor when I lifted my bag and I was in a hurry to get out at the right spot. I felt so stupid! I thought 'o no! my scarf!' and the bus drove away. But there's this great website were the bus company places photos of lost objects, and after a couple of days my scarf showed up! I'm so happy it's back, all the hours of work. I'll wash it and block it again and it's like it's never been away.

I wrote a couple of posts ago I would show my new made dress. It's actually more a summer dress but I will make the photo as I promised this week.

Close to you

Woo! I finished (finally) the Close to You shawl by Justyna Lorkowska. It's a free pattern on Ravelry and very easy to knit. Although I love the end result, I couldn't really get myself into knitting the shawl. I started very enthusiastic but it became a w.i.p. for more then 5 months. Maybe that doesn't sound like a long time, but for me it is. When I really enjoy a shawl pattern I can finish it quickly but the constant simple repeat was a bit boring. Maybe I would have been more enthusiastic with some challenging lace in the pattern. But whatsoever I love the end result! The yarn is very pretty and handdyed by Treliz from Greece. The idea of this yarn drying in the sun of Greece after being dyed made it extra special to knit with.

The week flew by and I was busy so I had no time for sewing at all. But I still want to cut out the fabric to make a jeans. Maybe I'll take a go with it now? I don't know, maybe. And otherwise sometime this week in the evening when I have some spare time. We'll see.

So I hope you all have a lovely week, and I will be posting very soon!

Tits out Collective socks

O, it's such a rainy day today! Sometimes the sun shines and within a couple of minutes it's raining again. So it's Monday, start of a new week. And they say the week ends with some sunshine, so lets hope that will happen!

The photo above shows some lovely socks I made a month ago in Denmark. Well actually I started with the first sock at home and finished it. I took the yarn and the pattern with me in the car for sock number two and I finished the sock on the second day when we were traveling (car knitting). I'm so happy because they fit so well. The pattern is called Mierentietjes by Heleen Kok, Plakhuis on Ravelry. You can find the pattern here. If you bought the pattern, she donated 50% to Pink Ribbon. The pattern was a part of the Tits Out Collective started by Countessablaze. It was such a good idea from Countessablaze to start the funding and letting idiedyers and pattern designers take part in it. I really wanted to support a charity for the Tits Out Collective and I choose two Dutch charity options by buying this pattern and buying the yarn from The Fox and the Knight, colorway Baboonbut (I love that name!!). The yarn is so soft and beautifully dyed! It was a joy to knit them. And she donated a percentage to Stichting Aap. A charity for monkeys.

Well and this week? Well I hope I can finish the Close to You shawl by Justyna Lorkowska. It's been a w.i.p. for more then a half year, so time to finish it. The yarn I use is form Treliz. I bought it when she was selling on the Dutch knitting/crochet festival in Zwolle (Breidagen). And I want to start with making a jeans. I already drafted the pattern at my own size and made a fitting model, washed the fabric and ironed it. So now I have to cut out the fabric en start sewing. I hope I can work on it this week or in the weekend, when I have time.

I hope you'll have a lovely week and I might post again this week and otherwise next week!

My fern and Feather

This was a photo I took when we stayed in Denmark for a holiday. I started my Fern and Feather with Swedish wool from Ullcentrum Öland and the woman from the shop told me that these colors were inspired by the flowers and plants in the area of Öland. I love that idea! I've knitted a huge part since I made this photo. I will soon share my progress.

Those saturated colors

O, the week has gone so fast! Last weekend I was with a good friend on the 'Handwerkfair' at de Vertakking in Ryptjerk. We shared a stand and despite the wasps we had such a sociable day!

I still didn't take some time to download all the photo's I made in Denmark a couple of weeks ago. I hope I will find some time this week.

Today I was in the garden cleaning up some pots and the expendable greenhouse (no more sowing this year) and I realized autumn is slowly taking over summer. I notice it in the morning when it's fresh and sometimes a bit misty in the mornings. And while some plants are still flowering some leaves are turning brown and yellow. Autumn is a beautiful season with all those saturated colors.

I've added some new handdyed wool in my Etsy Shop and I'm still adding more in the following week.

And I've been knitting on some projects and finished a new dress! I will show in my next post what I've been making!

Small talk

I've not written any blogposts in a while because the summer holiday had such warm weather I didn't feel like sitting at my desk in a room with a temperature of 30 C+ would make any good blogpost.

So now I'm back with a small update while the cat sleeps and snores beside me. The last time I wrote a blogpost I've uploaded some photo's of handdyed yarn. Now my Etsy shop is closed for some weeks because during the holiday I decided to take a go at the Handwerkfair in Ryptjerk at De Vertakking at 8 september (saturday). I will be sharing a stand with a good friend and I'm very excited!
I dyed a lot of different types of yarn and I hope people will like what I dyed. I'm looking forward to have a nice day.

After the fair I will write here again and talk a little about my holiday in Denmark.

I'll be back soon!

Some Monet inspired yarn

Time for some spring!
